It seems the issue we reported two months’ ago of criminals targeting vehicles in Ruddington – particularly on the Pasture Lane estate – still hasn’t gone away, despite reassurances from Nottinghamshire Police at the time that they had increased patrols in our village.
Pasture Lane estate resident Victoria has got in touch to tell us: “We have had loads of instances of gangs trying to get into our cars on our street. The police are aware and doing nothing. A few weeks ago someone’s car was stolen on the estate and we have a number of CCTV recordings from ‘RingGo’ doorbells showing them trying to get into cars at 3am. My car has been damaged this week by them trying to break into it. Is there anything we can do to try and get the police to do something about it!?”
Claire Harris has had a similar experience, though says she has spotted officers around: “My ring doorbell is picking up people trying mine and neighbours car doors on a weekly basis. Have reported, but heard nothing. I have seen patrols out driving, so that is a good thing, but just wonder how long it will go on for because their resources are needed elsewhere?”
RUDDINGTON.info contacted new Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Rushcliffe Rob Lawton, on residents’ behalf. He responds: “We’re aware of some previous issues regarding auto crime in the Ruddington area and we have been carrying out proactive patrols to prevent and deter these sort of crimes.
“Some offenders are opportunistic and rely on easy access to take property from vehicles so we’d advise people to please make sure their cars are locked and they remove any valuables when they leave their vehicles or keep them out of sight”.
Inspector Lawton adds: “Taking simple crime prevention steps are a big deterrent and will help reduce the likelihood of you being a victim of crime. While we have increased patrols in affected areas, and continue to work hard to reduce auto crime, we are asking the public to help us by reporting any suspicious activity to us. Call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or, if a crime is in progress, call 999.”
Meantime, the latest reported crime figures for the month of May in Ruddington, kindly provided for us by village Beat Officer PCSO Sherrylee Sampson, show that vehicle crime is not restricted to our Pasture Lane estate.
However, incident numbers remain reassuringly low – with just nine offences reported in Ruddington for the entire month:-
